Five Tips To Maintain Work-Life Balance

Today, I will share with you some tips that might help you overcome the stress and anxiety you face while managing to cope with a balance between work and life.

Generally, we all tend to be pulled on either side of the rope. If we try to work hard and think practical, we forget to relax, take a deep breath, and be grateful for all that hard work. When we start to indulge ourselves completely in work, we enjoy it but we also miss having a normal life, sitting on a dining table to have a plate of butter-bread without stressing about the to-do list for the day. Before looking forward to the tips, you need to understand the fact that there is no perfect time to do it. You will never actually get the time to spend on yourself. We always tend to work for a client, make money to help the family, avoid taking a day-off to prevent ourselves from boss cutting costs, etc. After all, we are only human. You must understand that it is vital for you to rest down and not get too stressed due to workload.

Does Being a Workaholic Cause Damage?

Yes. Though you may enjoy being a workaholic and push back your pain, you will understand later in life about the things you missed out at a particular age. Life is meant to be cherished and completely enjoyed. You work to spend money on yourself and your loved ones. You are not working to just keep on working and being a money making machine. Being indulged in work 24x7 can cause damage up to some extent to your relationship, emotions, and health. As important as work can get in order to achieve success and growth, your own well-being, mental and physical health is important too. Not focusing on your well-being may seem silly right now, but it can cause real issues and side effects that may be seen as you get old.

Why Can’t You Manage The Balance?

You can clearly observe the same old pattern of why a human being cannot manage the work-life balance. The most basic reasons are because the person is piled up with huge responsibilities; both at work and in life. It gets challenging for a person who has to handle the work pressure, manage the overall system while also returning home to look after someone at home (especially a child or an old parent). It also gets difficult when a person being stuck at work is unable to make time for his/ her family and friends. Even though you make excuses and apologize, at some point, it may surely affect your relation with others as they come to a conclusion that only work is important for you.

How To Improve The Balance?

First understand that you are a freeman. You deserve freedom of choice, movement, and speech; regardless of where you stand. When you think that having the perfect ideal work-life balance means working just a little bit and enjoying the rest of the day, it does not work like that. You must see through the fact that what actually makes you happy aside from work. When you step outside your office, what is that one little thing you wish you could do, or get. Getting the balance is not in pretending to mend the relationship by going shopping, spending lavishly on dinner dates. You must know that outside work, you can manage to create that balance in life by seeking pleasure and joy in the littlest things that could make you seem creative and also allow others to be comfortable around you.

5 Tips To Bring That Balance

  • Find the right job that you love

Though this may sound absurd if you have a great pay at your regular job, it is crucial that you love what you do. You do not just seek happiness outside work. You need to seek pleasure, peace, and happiness at your work. Even if the people in your environment tell you otherwise, make sure to listen to what your heart says and follow your gut. Do not make rash decisions. Try and relax, think it through, and go ahead to take a step forward towards protecting your well-being.

  • Learn to say No

Even though you may tell that you are not quite a people-pleaser, it may be true at some point. You may have nodded your head to finishing up a last-minute assignment given by your coworker or your boss and you having to cancel your plan outside work. Choose to say what you feel inside your head. It is just a waste of time if you are going to try and be mad at them while you smile and say yes to something you are not willing to do.

  • Health should be your first priority

It is the most common thing that people take for granted. You may watch a movie of how a disabled man did something so great and you feel inspired and grateful for being alive, sound and safe. You must always feel grateful for your well-being, and health. Only because you are healthy, you are able to work better and bring success to your job. Do not push back on maintaining your health. Go for meditation, do some yoga early in the morning to relax and sit quiet. If the house is a stressed out place in the morning, reminding you of all the pending tasks, just tie up your shoelaces, plug in your earphones, and go out for a walk or jog. Go to a park or a lake if you can. It can be a calming exercise for you to sit and think with a steady mind.

  • Make time for your loved ones

Like I said, you need not plan something grand to win them back. You need to make them believe that you are there for them. You care and to do so, make them comfortable. Do simple things that they may like. Cook a meal, take them out for a walk, talk to them about their day, play some games outside, unplug and go for a short trip with them. It is important for both the other person, and you, to get some rest. To step outside and enjoy a little fresh atmosphere.

  • Make a schedule and set a target

If you have decided to do something in a particular time, try your best to complete it within then. If you cannot, do not stress and get apprehensive. Try to push it a little forward. I wouldn’t suggest you procrastinate. But, if you think a tiny break is necessary, take it. Know your capability and limits to work according to it.

Conclusion

This is all you may need to know about finding the right balance between work and life. All you need to do is examine. Keep your mind still and focus on things one at a time. With your head piled up with thoughts, you may get nowhere, and maybe would even regret not doing something you wished to. Collect your thoughts and think them through.

I hope this sounded helpful enough for you. If you are really stressed and completely disliking your job, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and quit that job. You deserve a lot more peace than a tiring job of 9 straight hours. You may find a million others with better offers that would value your work and respect your boundaries. I wish you good luck!

If you get inspired from this to take a step forward towards betterment, feel free to share your side of the story of how you overcame stress and managed to find that balance in such a crammed environment.
